will training under a pastry chef be as good as going to school for it?

Where can I take baking/pastry classes in nassau county long island?

I’m 16 and I’m really interested in opening my own cafe/bakery and I’d like to learn baking skills from professionals. Any contact info of the places and maybe personal experiences would be nice. Thanks :)

How much money does a pastry chef make?

Hi my name is Kandi and I’m 18 :) I want to enter the (CIA) Culinary Institute of America. I love cooking and baking. But my dream is to open up a small bakery and become famous. Some example are Tate’s Bake shop, Sarah Lee, Entamins, Drakes, Hostes, and much more. I would start out as a pastry chef first and work hard to open a bake shop. Would I need to take a few business courses? Would the bank loan me money to start a small business. Also do you think culinary school is a waste of time? Please Help

I am considering becoming a pastry chef…?

So the thing is that I’m a junior in high school and quite don’t know what career I want to pursue. I took Culinary Arts 1 my freshmen year. My family members have been telling me to be a pastry chef and i liked the idea (since enjoyed the experience), but the high school I moved to, is new and doesn’t have culinary classes, so I can’t continue to take culinary classes at school. My question is should i take baking classes or get a job in my local bakery (w/out any experience… if possible) during the summer? I have to chose between them because I use my parent’s car, i would only be able to use in the morning so i can’t do both. Since I will be paying for my college tuition, i need to start saving money (I don’t get any allowance or anything like that), so it’s hard for me to chose between the above options. I was also considering getting a job that doesn’t pertain to food, since a lot easier to get because there isn’t as much prerequisites. I’ve assisted an open house at my near culinary institute and they said that I need culinary experience. But money is what is holding me back from making a firm decision. What should I do?
